Rhodes Music Corporation has commenced the manufacturing and shipping of the iconic Rhodes electro-mechanical keyboard to domestic and international markets from its factory in Long Beach, Calif.

Evolving form a piano invented by Harold Rhodes during World War II designed to provide a keyboard that injured serviceman could play while in bed, the Rhodes piano features unique functionality: unlike the action in a conventional piano, where each key causes a corresponding hammer to strike sets of strings, in a Rhodes the hammers strike the tines, instead. The distinctive sound became a favorite of many musicians from the mid-1960s onwards, with a number of notable players embracing the instrument (Joe Zawinul, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, Donald Fagen, and Herbie Hancock, to name but a few).

Leo Fender entered a joint venture with Harold Rhodes in 1959 and for many years afterwards the instruments were known as \"Fender Rhodes.\" The (then) final model, the Rhodes Mark V, was released in 1984. \"The most important thing to us is sticking to the integrity of the original instrument design,\" says Joseph A. Brandstetter, CEO of Rhodes Music Corp. \"This is what Harold Rhodes wanted. The Rhodes Music Corporation is proud to maintain Harold\'s vision of innovative quality and American ingenuity.\"

Focal wins another award with CMS-50

For the 10th time, more than 100 magazines from all over the world got together to vote the best products of 2008/2009. The awards have been presented to the winners at a special mipa-Party/Awards-Ceremony held during Musikmesse / Prolight + Sound, April 2nd, 2009. More than 300 international representatives of manufacturers and distributors of musical instruments and audio equipment have joined for the 10th mipa Awards Show including guests from the USA, Canada, Japan, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, Poland, Great Britain, Italy, France, Greece, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
Focal Professional presented the CMS 50 to this worlwide competition. Focal CMS 50, Genelec 6010 and Event Opal have been selected to compete for the final round of the MIPA in the Studio Monitor category. The result? The CMS 50 has been awarded best studio monitor!
